Dogs are an amazing addition to any household, especially when there are kids in the mix too. We had a lot of fun creating this list (in no particular order) of the best dogs for families to help make the right decision for you and yours!
Bulldog
Landing at number one is the loyal and laidback Bulldog. They are decently low-maintenance as they only really require some regular walks, since most of the time they’ll be napping. That wrinkly face will win your heart over in an instant. Something to keep in mind though, they do better in colder climates as they are prone to overheating due to their short snouts.
Bernese Mountain Dogs
Bernese Mountain Dogs are considered some of our bigger friends and hold the title of gentle giants; weighing in at over a hundred pounds. These dogs are for the families that want a big companion with an amazing temperament around kids. Sweet, fluffy and simply the best living teddy bear alive!
Boston Terrier
Named after none other than one of our fifty states, the Boston Terrier is easily recognizable by its “tuxedo” coat. They do really well in apartment living situations, love walks and playing games with the kids. They love people and their size is perfect for being around small children as they weigh under 25 pounds.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is the perfect combination of a toy-sized breed and an athletic dog. They are super cute, great companions and get along with everyone they cross paths with; including other pups! If you love to pet dogs, they have one of the silkiest coats and they will melt you with their adorable expressions.
Labrador Retriever
Labrador Retrievers are arguably the most popular dog breeds and have kept that title for decades. They have the most personable demeanor that locks in that best friend role with everyone. This breed is truly a great fit if you are ready to keep them entertained and work with their high energy levels. They crave a ton of exercise and are for people who can handle a bigger dog as they can grow up to 80 pounds.
Pugs
Pugs are very human in that they love to eat and sleep, which means you need to watch their diets as well as their exercise routines. They are highly compatible with the whole family as they love to snuggle up for couch time but will also be game to play with the kids. They also don’t need much space as they are only 15 pounds, so they are ideal for smaller homes.
Alaskan Malamute
The Alaskan Malamute is a sled dog in nature, so it is all about the pack; no matter which species that may be. Their natural instinct is inclined to work, so they require a powerful alpha that will keep them on a regular exercise and training schedule. They are considered one of the most loyal dogs, with the friendliest and most willing temperament. They will do great in a super energetic household.
Beagle
Our final contender for this list is the Beagle ! They are beyond loveable, friendly, adorable and they are meant for companionship. The Beagle does best among the pack, so long days left alone will not be conducive to their instinctual need to be around other beings. They are, however, prone to escaping if they catch a whiff of something that’s intriguing.
