The coat of a dog is a big deal for a couple of reasons...temperature control and aesthetics. We went on a quest to find the most popular hairstyles for dogs and here are the top picks!
The Neaten is quite possibly the most requested style, especially for double-coated breeds like Australian Shepherds, Pyrenees, and Golden Retrievers.
The Schnauzer Cut sounds misleading because contrary to its name, this cut isn’t just for Schnauzers. It works for small and large dogs, leaving long hair on the dog’s legs while trimming the back and sides very short. You’ll know it when you see it because of the light fringe of hair left on the lower side of the dog’s body with a fun little ‘mustache’ cut to frame the face.
With a Puppy Cut, you’re getting everything that comes with a Neaton minus the feathering which just means the hair is cut to a uniform length all over the body. Usually, 1-2 inches of fur is left behind which is ideal for those of us who are low-maintenance in nature because not much grooming is necessary once you get home.
The Lamb Cut is just like it sounds and to achieve this style, the hair on the body and neck is clipped short, leaving the hair longer on the head and legs. Although any breed can sport this style, Poodles are the true rockstars of this one.
Another “just like it sounds” look is the Lion Cut where your pooch resembles the king of the jungle. The hair on the neck and head is left much longer than the rest body, in comparison.
With the Teddy Bear Cut, it is basically the opposite of the Lion Cut where the hair on the head is trimmed shorter in comparison to the rest of the body to leave pupper looking like a small bear!
We’re going super hipster with the Practical Top-Knot that is usually seen on long-haired dogs because you need longer hair to be able to tie it together. Breeds such a Maltese, Shih Tzu, and Lhasa Apso are known to have popularized it. The hair on the head is gathered and sacred with a band or sometimes clip that creates a ponytail with the hair on the rest of the body trimmed to any length - dealer’s choice.
As tempting as it may be, please don’t try this at home; we have seen too many sad pups leaving the home salon in tears! Download the Petlox app for some amazing groomers who mean business and follow us on Instagram @Petlox for the latest pupdates.
