In 2005, November was declared as the National Pet Cancer Awareness Month by the Animal Cancer Foundation. Let’s do our part in spreading the word to help. After all, the leading cause of disease-related deaths for domestic cats and dogs is cancer. As the cancer cases within the pet community continues to increase, so do helpful advancements in pet medicine. As pet parents though, we must do our part to educate each other about early cancer detection, so their furry loved ones can continue on with their healthy lives.
Presently, there are different types of cancers our pets are susceptible to. Some of the most common cancer cases include lymphoma, spleen cancer, bone or joint cancer, liver cancer, chest cancer, and the list, unfortunately, goes on. We, at Petlox, encourage you to keep up with regular veterinary check-ups as well as look out for certain warning signs at home.
Here’s what to keep an eye out for:
• Loss of appetite.
• Diarrhea and/or vomiting.
• Loss of interest in physical activities.
• Rapid weight loss.
• Difficulty with stool or urination.
• Tiredness or lethargy.
• Blood coming from mouth or rectum.
• Changes in breathing.
We hope that you will make it a habit to look out for these signs & symptoms not only for the month of November but ALL year round. Catching cancer early in pets can possibly save their lives! To keep up with spreading the awareness of this cause, use hashtags like #PetCancerAwarenessMonth or #PetCancerAwareness to post and search posts on social media.
